So I went to my second day of Crossfit today. And once I saw the techniques we'd be learning I immediately dreaded it. I hated, I mean HATED, dreaded lifting in college. I played soccer for my school, Austin College, and we had madatory lifitng sessions. All my teammates had all done lifting in high school, whereas my soccer program in high school was very relaxed, most of us played for club and that took precedent over any high school practice. So when I went to play for college I was already behind everyone. We only did team lifting in the spring and our coach barely taught us how. I actually "threw" my back out as a freshmen on our first lifting practice because no one really ever taught me the proper way or corrected me. The upper classmen were supposed to be correcting us, but the one partnered with my group was unconcerned.
So, to say the least, this area is a big part of Crossfit workouts and I want to change lifting from a harmful, ineffective workout to the complete opposite. It's just that for me, lifting is associated with humiliation, and pain, which are two very hard emotions to work through. I will give it a try though. Hopefully next week is better!
